Dear New Lothrop Area Public Schools Community,
It is with great pride and excitement that I write to you as the new Superintendent for New Lothrop Area Public Schools. It’s truly an honor to be joining a district with such a proud tradition, strong community support, and a deep commitment to students.
From the moment I stepped into education as a middle school social studies teacher, I knew this work was special. Over my twenty years in education, I’ve had the opportunity to serve as a middle and high school assistant principal, athletic director, high school principal and most recently as the Assistant Superintendent at Mattawan Consolidated School. In every role, one thing has always been clear: when we work together and keep students at the center, great things happen.
I believe schools should be places where students not only learn core subjects but also grow as people. That means offering them a wide range of opportunities, challenging them to think critically, and supporting them with care and high expectations.
Along my journey, I studied economics at Albion College, earned my teaching certificate at Western Michigan University, and completed a degree in Educational Leadership from Grand Canyon University. Each step helped shape the core values of my leadership with purpose, humility, and a focus on relationships.
Outside of work, I’m a proud dad to three awesome boys: Elliott, Abram, and Miles. They remind me every day why this work matters and fuel my passion for helping all students thrive.
As we begin this school year together, I’m looking forward to getting to know our students, families, and staff. I can’t wait to hear your stories, learn what makes New Lothrop so special, and work alongside you to build an even stronger future for our schools.
Here’s to a great year ahead!
Warmly,
Jay Larner
Superintendent
